About True Design
My name is Thomas Swart and I’m a freelance industrial designer. I was educated as an Industrial Design Engineer at the Delft University of Technology where I received an MSc in Integrated Product Design in June of 2012. My master thesis which you can view here, was used in a scientific paper which was published by ACM.
Though I was born in Amsterdam, I grew up on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten. Apart from making me fully bilingual in English and Dutch, this has also given me insight into different cultures and lifestyles. This allows me to work efficiently in a multicultural environment, and easily adapt to new projects regardless of the background or target market.
As a designer, I consider myself to be realistic and down-to-earth with a preference for clean and functional designs. Besides being passionate about design, I also have an affinity for new technology and gadgets. This has led to the creation of my Shapeways webshop with which I make 3D printed products and prototypes.
My desire to start working as an industrial designer when I was still studying, lead to the founding of True Design in October of 2010. The projects True Design has worked on have been very diverse, including an electric scooter concept, projection screens, visualizations, 3D animated product presentation videos and 3D printed products.
The image below shows a simplified version of the design process True Design uses. Because two of my main focus points are customer satisfaction and efficiency, I work in phases which allow for input when it matters. Though this image shows the process as a whole, I also offer my design services separately.
Please contact me for an informal conversation about your design needs, so we can clarify if and in which design phase I can be of service to you.
I am available on a project or hourly basis.
